Currently we check AV_FRAME_DATA_DISPLAYMATRIX for its rotation factor
but not for its flip factor, which could happen with some input files.
This commit adds and autovflip filter, which is applied before the
autorotate filter to flip vertically before rotating. It also changes
the displaymatrix reading code to output to mp_image->params.vflip so
it can be autoinserted as necessary.

The playlist demuxer won't propagate the protocol forward to its entries
if its protocol is on a whitelist, for example data:// or memory:// etc.
This commit adds fd:// to that list because that should not be expected
to work.

Property names contain '-' characters, which are translated into
underscores because POSIX shell variables cannot contain hyphens.
We should do the same thing for forward slash characters (i.e. '/')
because these also cannot be present in the names of shell variables.

This commit allows image_writer to attach HDR metadata to AVFrames via
the corresponding AVFrameSideData attachments, if present. It does this
by calling pl_avframe_set_color, already used by mp_image_to_avframe.

Add .jxl as a file extension that maps to an image codec. Note that
this will include animated JXL files, but .gif is also on that list so
they are not different in that regard.
If demux_open_lavf fails between calling avformat_alloc_context() and
assigning the context to priv->avfc, it will never be properly freed.

Pass "dummy.m3u8" filename to work around FFmpeg commit
6b1f68ccb04d791f0250e05687c346a99ff47ea1 which broke their HLS demuxer
and its ability to probe.
Since the above commit, libavformat will check the filename of the file
to be probed and reject it if it doesn't end with a valid HLS extension
i.e. m3u8,hls,m3u (never mind that .hls is not a valid HLS extension).
In addition to a bug with query strings, this also breaks mpv
functionality as mpv explicitly doesn't tell libavformat the filename
when probing, in order to properly detect the file based only on their
contents.
The [HLS specification](https://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc8216.txt) aka
RFC 8216, specifies in section 4 that "Each Playlist file MUST be
identifiable either by the path component of its URI or by HTTP
Content-Type." Notably, it does not require both, so this FFmpeg commit
is noncompliant. We work around this noncompliance by checking the MIME
type ourselves. If the mimetype matches one of the valid HLS mimetypes
(and also application/x-mpegurl, a legacy pre-standardization type),
then we pass "dummy.m3u8" to libavformat in order to work around its
overly strict checking of filenames.
Without this patch, we are unable to play many HLS streams, including a
few from the ytdl hook. This patch restores those ability to play those
streams when built against FFmpeg master. Do note that if the server
sends an invalid content-type header then we cannot implement this
workaround so those streams will still fail to play.
If --screenshot-tag-csp=no, then there won't be any color tags in the
output space, so PNG and JXL screenshots should be written as sRGB
rather than the native space of the input video.
Screenshots using the hardware renderer should now include color tags
that map directly from the libplacebo tags, so the if/else logic only
needs to be included once.
mp_trc_to_pl, mp_prim_to_pl, and mp_levels_to_pl have forward but not
inverse mappings. This commit adds mp_trc_from_pl, mp_prim_from_pl, and
mp_levels_from_pl inverse mapping functions, which just map the enums
in the other direction.
effort=4 has a significant increase in quality/bpp compared to effort=3
with a very minor increase in encoding time. It's worth the trade-off
as a default setting for lossy encoding.
With significant improvements to the color tagging support in various
screenshot formats, e.g. cICP in FFmpeg, and JPEG XL's generally robust
color support, it's safe to default this to yes.
Writing an image either with vo_image or with a screenshot will strip
the colorspace info because it allocates a new mp_image that contains
the same data as the old image after calling mp_image_params_guess_csp.
However, mp_image_params_guess_csp cannot always guess the appropriate
colorspace, so it picks a "sane default." Since this function also
changes parameters so the space always makes sense, this extra info
isn't harmful and allows screenshots and vo_image outs to be properly
tagged with the correct colorspace.

This patch adds support for two extra WAVEFORMATEXTENSIBLE GUID tags
that can appear inside RIFF headers. It also adds support for extra
codec IDs that may appear as their own unique wSubFormats inside RIFF
headers, such as ATRAC9 inside matroska, as one example.

Pushing E (aka Shift+e) cycles through Editions for containers
that support editions, such as Matroska, although this feature was not
documented before this commit.
Removed the outdated information about environmental brightness
with respect to --gamma-factor, and mention that the option is
deprecated and subject to future removal. Also deprecated the
--gamma-auto option as it relies on the same outdated way of doing
things.
Alphabetizing the extensions cleans up the code and makes it less
ambiguous where newer extensions should be added. The video line
also was wrapped to 72 characters for cleanliness.
Add xoshiro as a PRNG implementation instead of relying
on srand() and rand() from the C standard library. This,
in particular, lets us avoid platform-defined behavior with
respect to threading.
Allow screenshot-high-bit-depth=yes to work with JPEG XL
screenshots when screenshot-sw=no is set. They already work
as expected when screenshot-sw=yes is set, but this allows
the hardware screenshots to work this way too.
Add Jpeg XL as a possible output format for screenshots, which
should make it possible to take fast screenshots with much better
quality than JPEG, or take lossless high-bit-depth screenshots
with lower file sizes than PNG.
FFmpeg recently split version.h into version.h and
version_major.h, and no longer automatically includes
version.h in avcodec.h (and the other libraries). This
should allow mpv to build against ffmpeg git master. See
FFmpeg/ffmpeg@f2da2e1458
These headers are not new, so their inclusion should not affect
backwards compatibility.
Allow --keep-open=always to work with --loop-playlist, where
before this patch it would work only on the last playthrough of the
playlist. This patch allows it to work on all playthroughs.
Fixes#9470.
Apple has decided that Mac OS X is now named macOS for the time
being. For consistency, it makes sense to use the same name for the
operating system in all places where it occurs. This commit renames
OS X to macOS in the documentation in places where it was otherwise
still using the old name.
Recent versions of mpv have applied security checks to --playlist
that previously only existed if playlist files were played as an
input directly. This commit documents this change and how to work
around it, in the event that playlist files are trusted.
This reverts commit 9513165c99
and commit 4efe330efb.
I had changed --loop-file to interact with --start to work
the same way that --loop-playlist does. (That is, --loop-file
seeks to the --start time upon looping, not the beginning of
the file.) However, the consensus is that the old behavior is
preferred and the interaction with --loop-playlist is the one
that is incorrect.
In addition, this change introduced a bug in the interaction
between Quit-Watch-Later and --loop-file, where upon reaching
playback end it would seek to the resume timestamp, not the
start of the file.
As a result, this commit reverts that change.
The OpenType Font File specification recommends that "Collection fonts
that use CFF or CFF2 outlines should have an .OTC extension." mpv
should accept .otc as a fallback extension for font detection should
the mimetype detection fail.
IETF RFC8081 added the "font" top-level media type,
including font/ttf, font/otf, font/sfnt, and also
font/collection. These font formats are all supported
by mpv/libass but they are not accepted as valid
Matroska mime types. mpv can load them via file extension
and they work as expected, so files using the new types
should not trigger a warning from mpv.
Most options that change the playback endpoint coexist and playback
stops when it reaches any of them. (e.g. --ab-loop-b, --end, or
--chapter). This patch extends that behavior to --length so it isn't
automatically trumped by --end if both are present. These two will
interact now as the other options do.
This change is also documented in DOCS/man/options.rst.
Using --loop-file should now seek to the position denoted by --start
or equivalent option, rather than always seeking to the beginning as
it had done before. --loop-playlist already behaves this way, so
this brings --loop-file in line for added consistency.
If --ab-loop-b is present, then ab-looping will be enabled and will
attempt to seek to the beginning of the file. This patch changes it
so it will instead seek to the start of playback, either via --start
or some equivalent, rather than always to the beginning of the file.
Added a get_play_start_pts function to coincide with the
already-existing get_play_end_pts. This prevents code duplication
and also serves to make it so code that probes the start time
(such as get_current_pos_ratio) will work correctly with chapters.
Included is a bug fix for misc.c/rel_time_to_abs that makes it work
correctly with chapters when --rebase-start-time=no is set.
Changed the reference from --gpu-gamma to --gamma-factor,
and changed the reference from --post-shader to --glsl-shaders,
in order to reflect actual changes to the option names.
A relic of mplayer had 'I' as the keybind to show the filename of the
currently playing file on the OSD. mpv does not do this by default.
This commit removes this incorrect information from the mpv manage.
Sometime earlier, "sub-ass-style-override" was renamed to
"sub-ass-override". The option's documentation was updated to support
this, but not the documentation for the hotkey that toggles this option.
This commit updates the keyboard shortcut documentation to fix that.
